"In the course of Monday night, the 7th ult. [meaning December 7, 1835] a barn

belonging to Mr. Woodthorpe Clarke, of Hanslope, Bucks, was entered by some thieves

who picked the lock, and carried away about 12 bushels of barley. Application was

immediately made to Evans, the constable, who on repairing to the barn, traced foot

marks to within a few yards of a house occupied by Daniel and William Carr, Moor End,

Yardley Gobion. A warrant was obtained and Carr's premises were searched, and a quantity

of barley found which Mr. Clarke identified as his property.

On further prosecuting the search two tubs, a number of sacks, and several other articles

were found which were also owned by Mr. Clarke. Evans then proceeded to the bed room of Mary Ann,

the sister of the two Carrs, when he found a small box which was locked. Mary Ann Carr

refused to deliver up the key, and Evans broke the box open and discovered a Gown and an

apron the property of one of Mr. Clarke's servants. -- Daniel and Mary Ann Carr have since

been committed to Aylesbury Gaol for trial at the next Sessions. Wm. Carr has absconded,

but warrants have been issued for his apprehension. Mr. Clarke has been robbed six times within

the last thirteen months, and has lost property to the amount of £60."
